Different Rhythm. Same God. One Master of My Soul.

Some songs are born out of joy. Others are written during seasons when life seems uncertain, relationships are changing, and the heart is searching for something that will not move.
“Master of My Soul” was written in the late 1990s during one of those seasons in my life.
As I faced personal challenges and the approaching end of a relationship, I found myself drawing closer to God. In a time when so much around me felt uncertain, Jesus became my anchor, my rock, and the One I could depend upon.
Those experiences became part of the inspiration behind “Master of My Soul.”
A Different Rhythm, the Same Message
My musical roots run deep in Motown, rhythm and blues, gospel, and soul. Those influences have shaped my songwriting for decades.
When I revisited “Master of My Soul” using modern music production technology, something unexpected happened.
While experimenting with Suno and requesting a soulful male vocal, the music took on a reggae sound.
It was not the direction I had originally anticipated, but I embraced the rhythm and the way it carried the song’s message.
The arrangement was new. The words and the testimony behind them were not.
The Songwriter Behind the Music
Long before artificial intelligence became part of music production, I was writing original songs, poetry, and personal reflections.
The lyrics of “Master of My Soul” came from my own life experiences and my relationship with God. Suno became a tool for bringing those words into a new musical arrangement, not the source of the original lyrics.
That distinction matters to me because every song has a history, and every lyric has a story.
A Message That Still Speaks
Years have passed since I first wrote “Master of My Soul,” but the message remains meaningful to me.
Life changes. Relationships change. Seasons come and go. Yet through those experiences, my faith has continued to remind me where my strength comes from.
My hope is that listeners will hear more than a reggae rhythm. I hope they will hear a testimony of faith, perseverance, and the assurance that God remains steadfast.
Different rhythm. Same God. One Master of My Soul.
